Despite What You’ve Heard, Ben Affleck Is NOT Playing the Role of Batman

ben_affleck_batman_dark_knight_batfleck

..was the title of a “news” article i read this week.

yes, it was very deceptive, but it got me to click on the link, as thoughts ran through my head, “did the petition work? did warner bros really listen? did they cancel ben affleck’s contract? who is going to play batman now?” i couldn’t wait the 2 seconds for the link to load. i quickly opened a new tab and searched for the petition to ban ben affleck from the role of batman. there are several apparently. i chose change.org, which was an odd choice, as it is mainly used for political and environmental causes or causes that make an actual and immediate difference in peoples lives, usually affecting millions. but here it was, the ben affleck, “just say no” campaign. i have read and heard so much bad press over the “crazy comic book fans,” and “why does it matter who plays batman? as there are cool effects, it’ll be good.” i want to stop right here and say whoever and whomever said this is a dumb piece of beep. do i really need to remind these stoopid people how many bad movies were made with great effects and horrible stories with accompanying bad acting? one word “2012.” ok, not actually one word, but..

also, to that point, we, the fans, have a lot invested in characters like batman. these aren’t just idle whims that pass in and out of theatres, these are our literal heroes. we’ve spent hundreds of hours reading comics, playing video games and watching animated movies, all exploring the depths of the character, their thoughts and motivations. we love everything about them, and if there is something so annoying or disharmonious with a character, sidekick or story line, we let the creators know, uh-hum, jason todd; (i love the red hood, by the way). people who accuse us as being “crazy fans” don’t accuse nfl football fans of being crazy, that’s just “normal,” they say. football stars come and go, usually after a few seasons, but there is only one, BATMAN : The DARK KNIGHT. we have a right to express however we feel about our heroes, especially one as iconic as the Dark Knight. after all the years and all the story lines, Batman has only become better and more intriguing, culminating with the christopher nolan Dark Knight threequel. so where can we go from here? we have edgy zack snyder, from ‘300’ and the ‘watchmen,’ so the next batman screen appearance can’t be THAT bad, but what of the character? the dark, emotionally tormented Bruce Wayne? and what of Ben Affleck? can he pull this off? the convincing role of Bruce Wayne/Batman? well goofy, ‘blame it on rio’ michael caine was not my first choice for alfred, but he seemed to pull it off. it is quite obvious that ben affleck is an accomplished actor and director; yes, i am talking about ‘argo.’ he may not have made the best choices in his career, uh-hum- ‘gigli’/jennifer lopez. can the guy from ‘mallrats’ prove himself as actor and depict a superhero? superhero? yes as ‘daredevil,’ but prove? ben affleck’s character was muddled and repressed, not the blind lawyer, Matt Murdock, specialty billy club wielding vibrant character we have known so well. perhaps it was his personal feelings/emotional state interfering with the role. at the time, he was engaged to jennifer lopez (“i like tacos and burritos”-eric cartman) and they were planning ‘their’ dream wedding by building a fairy tale chapel to be married in; maybe i should say, “her” dream wedding. i think ben wanted out and saw no way out of ‘Bennifer.’ who comes up with these names like ‘bennifer’ and ‘batfleck?’ are they trademarked? am i supposed to send royalties to someone if i use them?

anyway, back to our story..
Ben met another Jen, yep, that was it, ‘Bennifer2: the sequel’ in the form of ELEKTRA. can’t say i blame you Ben, Elektra is hot. no more bennifer1 and new romance with jennifer garner, bennifer2. clearly with a breakup/rebound going on in the background, one would be distracted from delving in deep and exploring the character.

i don’t want to make excuses for ben affleck and i am not defending him. before argo, i would have thought the dark knight & Wayne Mansion turning into a southie boston tea pahty. i think all the Batfleck h8rs (the change.org petition is now at 92,000 against Batfleck) will actually be good for batman. now ben affleck has a real challenge. batman is not just another paycheck-uh-hum nicholas cage in every movie in the last 4 years. ben must take on this challenge and be the best batman ever played or we will literally go to his house and lynch him; and i am not exaggerating here. so no distractions this time ’round ben, we have your number (well, i do and i’ll tweet it out if the first batfleck sucks). i hope and trust that ben can do pull it off. if not, we have 13 movie appearances and feature films to regret seeing.

Spider Noir

Here it is!  the moment you’ve all been waiting for …

SPIDER NOIR

indie film
Are you afraid of spiders?

Independent film Spider Noir focuses on the complexities of fear and its relationship on those around us; how fear can be all consuming, destroying ones life, and how liberating it can be to finally be free of fear; not just free of fear of spiders, but free of fear in general. This film may unravel you as a human being and force you to contemplate your true identity.

Indie Film critics around the world have been highly anticipating the release of this, soon to be, classic film. Film communities of Cannes, Sundance, Tribeca and Toronto all await the theatrical release of this epic, yet finite film. The decision not to submit it for oscar review,  was made, by the producers, primarily for the fans, to keep this intriguing short film just among indie film fans. However, recent news hints at wide spread release of this indie film may be upcoming in 2014.

Relax, well, not too much, it is a film about spiders after all, and enjoy this sneak peek of this film.

contact the producers via twitter, or stay up to date of upcoming releases and future projects:
