Bruce’s Dream. (do not read, contains spoilers). If you just watched ‘Batman v Superman : Dawn of Justice,’ you may be wondering (spoilers beyond this point..) what Lex Luthor meant when Batman was is in the jail cell with him, Who’s coming? What threat? You may have also forgotten Bruce’s Dream and it’s meaning. An apocalyptic world where Desert Batman is fighting soldiers with Superman logos, representing some fascist regime. Winged creatures then appear from the sky picking up downed resistance fighters and carry them away. Superman enters, kills two resistance fighters and de-masks Desert Batman. What is happening here? The answer lies in the next scene, “someone” appears (in time travel tunnel) and shouts to Bruce: “If she dies, then it’s over. She must survive.” Bruce wakes up at his desk. Much later, Bruce changes his mind about killing Superman rather suddenly without any reasonable justifiable cause. Was this just a “bad script” like so many critics have penned on their initial reviews? Or did Bruce put the pieces together and realize that if he didn’t save “her,” Martha Kent (not Martha Wayne), then apocalypse would come to Earth, and by “apocalypse,” I actually mean Apokolips. YES! Darkseid is coming and all of his flying minions from his home planet Apokolips. Darkseid is a Superman villain I have been waiting, expecting, hoping to see in Superman films since the Brandon Routh / Bryan Singer ‘Superman Returns.’ Yes, when Lex Luthor gained control of the Kryptonian ship (from ‘Man of Steel’) by using dead General Zod’s skinned finger prints; “..You now have full access to Kryptonian data on 100,000 worlds,” Kryptonian ship computer voice. If you connect this with the exact words Lex Luthor said to Batman in the jail cell at the end, Lex Luthor called Darkseid and basically said Dakseid and the Minions of Apokolis are on their way. Does this mean we will see more of the Apokolip-tic future, where Superman has sided with Darkseid in the upcoming ‘Justice League’ movie and the bleak, dystopian future will be unwritten by future Flash time traveling into Bruce’s dream, yelling “Save her Bruce?” Yes, yes it does. The plot to the ‘Justice League’ film has just been revealed. I mentioned there were spoilers, right? Also, we see Wonder Woman in all her glory; I think she could have taken Doomsday all by herself, after all she did mention, “I have taken on and beaten many mythical beasts” (ok, paraphrasing that one..). Wonder Woman did cut off Doomsday’s hand after all, she can block Doomsday’s energy beam with shield and bracelets (although Zack Snyder’s Doomsday does look a lot like Wraith, but Lex Luthor did say, (to Superman) “This is your Doomsday.”). Even Wonder Woman’s lasso of badassness (or Truth) can constrain Doomsday. She could take him. Also, also in the ‘Batman v Superman’ movie, yep, more spoilers, we see film clips, collected by LexCorp, of Jason Mamoa’s Aquaman, Ezra Miller’s The Flash and Ray Fisher’s Cyborg. The final words of Bruce Wayne / Batman (yes, Bruce Wayne is Batman, was that a spoiler too?) to Diana Prince / Wonder Woman was about (yep, out of quotes; that’s a lot to memorize) finding these “others like you, we will need them to fight.” “What makes you sure they will fight?” “They will, when they know what’s coming..” So recruitment is also part of the beginning plot of the upcoming ‘Justice League‘ film. So, you’re saying to yourself, who won? Batman or Superman? Was there really ever a question? Batman is smarter (hence geekier), therefore The Bats always wins; he actually did, in the movie, spoiled again, but that’s not what this post is about; it’s about Bruce’s Dream and the future of the DC comic superhero Universe, or, The DCU. A major geek-out moment for me was when Bruce Wayne walked past a Robin suit, with The Joker’s signature “HAHAHAHA” written in yellow paint. Yes, that’s a hint to Jason Todd’s Robin, who was killed by The Joker, but was later brought back to life via a Lazarus Pit, by Ra’s Al-Ghul. Jason, then, returned to Gotham City, but as the vigilante, The Red Hood, one of the most awesome characters in the DC Universe. Also, I did not see Jena Malone, originally leaked as playing Robin (Carrie Kelly), but more recently billed as ‘Batgirl,’ but I may have just missed her entirely, as there was a lot going on in ‘Batman v Superman.’ I’m sure the additional 60min Zack Snyder says is awaiting us when we buy the R-rated bluray version has Jena Malone and who knows what else? Dun-duhn-DUHNNNN! I am also secretly hoping that the extra 60min includes Mercy (Mercy Graves is played by Tao Okamoto in ‘BvS’) somehow escaping the explosion and living to star in future DC superhero films, just because her character is awesome; OMG another spoiler 😐
‘Batman v Superman : Dawn of Justice‘ movie premieres March 25 2016 (or midnight showing at 6pm Pacific Time on March 24th 2016). Should you go see it in the theatre? Yes, it’s worth the extra theater-going cash. Am I going to buy the bluray? I plan on renting/borrowing.
‘Wonder Woman‘ solo film premieres Jun 23 2017 (the plot takes place during World War I (or ‘The Great War’), just like in the photo of Diana and her crew that included Steve Trevor (love interest), played by Chris Pine, that Lex Luthor had on his hard drive (ok, that was the last spoiler).
‘Justice League‘ film premieres November 17 2017, that’s only a year and a half away, not 3 years apart, like the Dark Knight series.
