i wasn’t looking forward to Fantastic Four from the beginning; too soon for a reboot, but 20th Century Fox forced another movie because if they don’t keep producing Fantastic Four movies, then the cinema rights will revert back to Marvel. this movie is more of a power play than anything. but here’s what really went wrong: Josh Trank had an alternate vision for the reboot, different than the comics or what has come before in the previous Fantastic Four movies. Trank’s concept was more of a sci-fi film genre than a typical superhero film, even with thriller type scenes. nothing wrong with envisioning something new and giving us something to experience, in fact i encourage that. Trank chose a Fantastic Four reboot in the comics to draw from, ‘Ultimate Fantastic Four’ by Brian Michael Bendis. Trank’s vision, for the most part, was actually filmed, but that is not what we got this weekend. Fox studio execs meddled and reshot certain scenes, even renamed characters to make the film more like a generic superhero film, disparate from what Josh Trank had envisioned. what we were left with was 2 movies pieced together, with some strong story arcs and solid plot points, only to undermined by the next scene, taking the film temporarily in a new direction, and then back to it’s original scheme. in a lot of ways, the same thing happened to Ant-man. Edgar Wright’s vision was compromised and pieces were fit in to try to make Antman fit into a superhero movie scheme that studio execs like because they believe the standard makes money. unfortunately, they are right about the profit, but wrong about what makes a good movie. if it’s pg-13 with superheroes and humor, kids will love it; if it is original with an adult-centric, intellectually engaging plot, then grown ups will like it too. Ant-man was still a success, as the script was still mostly Edgar Wright’s vision, but not all that it could have been. The Fantastic Four, however, lacks clear direction and leaves audience members with an unsure feeling, like this one, “it had all the elements of other superhero movies, but i didn’t really like it and i can’t explain why; it was ok, i guess.” would Fox ever re-edit it more to Trank’s vision? will we ever see that version? i’m assuming that version will be better, but i can’t say for certain.
this Fantastic 4 reboot was intended to launch a series of films and begin integration between Fox’s owned X-Men movie franchise and the Fantastic Four. Fox even has a date for the Fantastic Four sequel. crossover plans are all but scrapped for now and no one knows for certain if Fox will continue on with the sequel. does this mean Fox will try to reboot the Fantastic Four again in 5 years just to hang on to the film rights? no one knows at this point.
the concept of a superhero team was conceived by Stan Lee at Marvel in 1961 and was created largely by Jack Kirby. over the years, the writer of the X-Men comics, Chris Clarement wrote the “FF,” as he likes to call it. Chris Claremont has the written the script for the upcoming ‘Gambit’ movie for Fox. why not have Chris Clarement write the new Fantastic Four? or, 20th Century Fox, if you still want to green light a sequel, have comic book writer Brian Michael Bendis write it? it was his vision that created the comic that inspired this movie.
it’s for sure this time, the “Gambit’ solo X-Men movie is a go and Channing Tatum will star as Gambit. according to the hollywood reporter: Channing Tatum closed a deal this morning with Fox pictures and confirms he is signed on for the upcoming X-Men solo movie, ‘Gambit.’ apparently, Channing Tatum threatened to leave as a negotiation tactic, which, we, on twitter, believed to be to true. Fox was expecting Channing Tatum to appear in multiple X-Men movies and spinoffs as Gambit and Channing Tatum had originally only signed up for one movie, the solo ‘Gambit’ movie. it is still unclear if Channing Tatum’s ‘Gambit’ will appear in next year’s ‘X-Men : Apacolaypse.’ glad they worked it out; happy to have Channing Tatum as Remy LeBeau, Gambit. Remy LeBeau is a cajun orphan, who grows up in New Orleans, becoming a thief. he meets Storm, who gets him to join the X-Men. Gambit’s mutant power is the ability to turn potential energy into kinetic energy, thus charging objects so that they will explode. he is often depicted with a deck of cards, which he charges and tosses at enemies. also in the X-Men comics, Gambit and Rogue fall in love. Fox studios is now casting a new Rogue for the Gambit solo movie. too bad Fox doesn’t want Anna Paquin as Rogue any more 😦 the ‘Gambit’ movie is set to premiere on October 7, 2016.
OMG, i don’t know either, but come on 22 Jumping G.I. Joe Magic Mike, you played a laser gravity boots wearing wolf hybrid in Jupiter Ascending, an X-Men mutant with ability to explode anything isn’t that much of a stretch; we need our Remy Lebeau, aka Gambit. Fox Studios has set the Gambit movie release date for October 7th, 2016; written by Chris Claremont, the creator of Marvel’s The X-Men comics.
fact: negotiations are falling apart now with Channing Tatum and Fox studio’s ‘X-Men: Gambit’ movie team; Channing Tatum has reportedly left the project, but it is yet unconfirmed by Fox Studios or Channing Tatum.
solution: tweet your angst, it helps (well maybe a little 🙂
a great action shot of Deadpool doing Deadpool stuff. the rating of this upcoming Fox movie of Marvel characters will premiere on feb 12 2016. the rating keeps vacillating between pg-13 and r. the Deadpool comics definitely an r-rated amount of violence and gore, but a lot of it is off the page. i polled every Deadpool cosplayer from comic con to smaller cons and unanimously they all said, “we don’t care which rating it gets, as long as it’s Deadpool,” meaning, true to the character that is Deadpool. Ryan Reynolds achieved that the first time we saw Wadw Wilson, Deadpool, on screen in ‘Wolverine : Origins;’ the ‘Team-X’ was definitely the best part of that movie (the other redeeming scene was lumberjack Wolverine in Canada). Deadpool looks amazing! can’t wait! ‘Deadpool’ premieres feb 12 2016.
Avengers : Age of Ultron Trailer #2 : explained
:27 Quicksilver & Scarlet Witch! due to a legal loop hole, both Scarlet Witch and her brother, Quicksilver, can appear in both 20th Century Fox movies, the X-Men movie series, as well as Marvel movies. Marvel, of course, is the creator of the X-Men, but sold the movie rights of the X-Men and every form of “mutant” and even the use of Adamantium to Fox many years ago and has been desperately trying to get them back.
:33 mystery woman in cavern, as Nick Fury voice over : “no matter who wins or loses, trouble always comes ’round.” some say this is Nebula (Thanos’ other “daughter,” other than Gamora, from Guardians of the Galaxy, looking for Infinity Stones for Thanos). but this could be an introduction to Wakanda, home to Black Panther and Vibranium. will Ultron create a metal suit out of indestructible Vibranium? probably. especially because, in the comics, Ultron created an exoskeleton from Adamantium, the indestructible metal that covers Wolverine’s skeleton; Adamantium’s use in films is exclusive to Fox, movie rights owner of X-Men and mutants. it would make sense to alter the cinematic version to Vibranium in its stead and create a window to the wonderful world of Wakanda. the woman in the cavern scene could be Shuri, T’Challa / Black Panther’s sister. Black Panther solo movie : Nov 3 2017.
:59 blond woman running with child. is this significant? is this woman Carol Danvers? the future Captain Marvel? it’s a long shot, but she is slated to make two cameos in this movie, perhaps this scene is the motivation for her becoming a hero; she also needs Kree powers, but maybe from Nebula somehow? i doubt they will have the Kree Captain Mar-vel is this movie, but maybe in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, no one knows for sure at this point. Carol Danvers will have her own feature length film (July 6 2018).
1:02 Ultron attempting to kill Thor (Ultron (Ultron 6 comic book equivalent) may actually kill Captain America and Thor and almost everyone else, like he did in the comic book; it may be up to Black Widow/ Natasha Romanov to find the Time Infinity Stone, reverse time and save everyone. Ultron might also find a way to banish Thor to a dark realm, leading to Thor 3 : Ragnarok (releases July 28 2017)).
1:06 Thor strangle threatens Tony Stark. (Tony found the computer program on a Chitauri ship & made it his new Jarvis, allowing it to become sentient, thus creating Ultron). more on Ultron, click here.
1:10 Hulk buster Ironman suit, Tony Stark built the suit in the event Hulk gets out of control, which only creates more distrust. did Tony Stark create a contingency plan for every Avenger, a way to defeat each Avenger in the case they were mind controlled like Hawkeye was in the first Avengers film? if Ultron is inadvertently given access to J.A.R.V.I.S., and therefore everything Tony Stark knows, Ultron would then have knowledge of how to defeat every Avenger. in the comics, Nick Fury and the former S.H.I.E.L.D. created this out of control Avenger contingency plan. for the movie, Avengers : Age of Ultron, it is most likely Tony Stark will be responsible; this will create distrust and cause the Avengers to disassemble for the next film, Captain America 3 : Civil War, or the “Ironman vs Captain America movie,” as some have started to call it.
every time Marvel releases a little more of this film, i just cant wait to see it more.
Avengers : Age of Ultron
releases May 1 2015 (in America, international release dates vary from april 29 to may 7th)
according to sources at Bleeding Cool, Fox is considering an X-Men TV series! it is still “deep in development.” which probably means 2016. Since Fox still owns the rights to ‘X-Men’ and even the word ‘mutant,’ and considering their new superhero success with Gotham, it only seems fitting that they will bring X-Men to the small screen. the potential could be amazing, since Fox produces the X-Men movies. there could be all kinds of movie-tv crossovers just like what Marvel did with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Captain America : the Winter Soldier. i’m really excited about this, make it happen Fox.
UPDATE: This has been confirmed and the series will be ‘X-Factor’ from the Marvel X-Men comics.
OMG OMG OMG! it has FINALLY been confirmed that Deadpool will indeed be a movie! the leaked footage, from July, was firmly denied by Fox Studios, but it turns out it was true all along. the leaked footage was of a 3D animation of deadpool antics, using the voice of, everyone’s favorite choice for the role of Wade Wilson / Deadpool, Ryan Reynolds. Ryan Reynolds is often referred to as’ ‘Ryan Wilson,’ as he played Wade Wilson / Deapool in the Fox’s ‘X-Men origins : Wolverine,’ as part of Team X, the best of that movie, by the way. Ryan “Wilson” Reynolds has not confirmed that he will be playing the Marvel character Deadpool, but we suspect he is still negotiating with Fox studios. Ryan Reynolds is a natural fit for Wade Wilson, mostly due to his personality on screen, going back to Van Wilder, being full of sarcastic retorts, which is perfect for Deadpool, also known as, ‘the Merc with the Mouth.’ we hope they can work it out, as comic fans will accept no substitute. the Deadpool movie is set to be released on feb 12, 2016.
we will also get a follow up glimpse of Deadpool in the next X-Men movie, ‘Age of Apocalypse,’ set to be released May 27, 2016.
if you are unfamiliar with the comic, it is rather gruesome, but lightens the mood by Deadpool incessant antics and desire for tacos. true to the comic, the movie will mimic Marvel’s comic character and will be rated R. the Deadpool movie, unfortunately will not be covering the X-Statix sequences, from the comic written by Milligan, but plenty of Deadpool antics are promised.
the origin of Deadpool, in the comic (just the basics): after a troubled youth, he briefly joined the military, where he was then diagnosed with cancer. he was offered an experimental treatment in the Weapon X program, the same program that gave Wolverine his adamantium. the treatment attempted to recreate Wolverine’s healing abilities, but caused the cancer to take over and scare his body. the treatment also caused memory loss and the healing abilities did eventually begin to work. he then escaped and became a mercenary, donning the familiar red suit with guns and swords.
UPDATE: the film will now be pg-13, instead of ‘R,’ but that’s kind of what the comics are anyway, the gore is out of sight/off page and the language is only hinted at. the movie could do the same, have the gore happen off screen & have Deadpool describe what it looks like & with SouthPark style, bleeped out cursing. i actually think it would be funnier that way. so sorry whiners, i don’t agree with you, pg-13 will be fine with me (if they do it right). James Gunn, director/writer of Guardians of the Galaxy, approves of the Deadpool comedy in this future film & said, “it’s true to the character.”
here’s the official Deadpool teaser / trailer from Fox Studios:
oooo, ya, • SPOILER ALERT • sorry, well not really, you should have already seen it opening weekend. the only acceptable excuse for not seeing Captain America: the Winter Soldier opening weekend, or any Marvel movie, would be…perhaps underground ferret hunting in Bosnia while being chased by giant robots. but as that is highly unlikely for most of us, your excuse is invalid. IT’S CAPTAIN AMERICA! ok, i’m calm now..
the action in this movie is unprecedented. the Nick Fury street scene was probably the most amazing action sequence i have ever seen. it definitely harkens back to “the bank scene,” from Heat. this is the scene that stands out the most. there are many action sequences in this film, all of them amazing.
HYDRA. THANOS. INFINITY STONES and new “mutants.”
if you don’t know what Hydra is, watch the first Captain America movie again, they explain it’s origins; it’s creation during World War II by Agent Smith, i mean, Red Skull, under the Nazi Regime. Also, i should mention, in the first Captain America film, (Captain America: the First Avenger), Red Skull found the Tesseract in Norway, one of the Infinity Stones, this one from Asgard, yeah, that’s where Thor is from. confused? well you just have to pat attention, because if you don’t, you will be really lost on august 1st. what? you don’t know why august 1st is the most pivotal day in superhero cinematic history? GUARDIANS of the GALAXY of course! yes, add that to your iCal & google drive/docs/whatever right now. why? THANOS is why. THANOS. OMG, really? Thanos was born on titan, he genetically enhanced himself to make him uber powerful. he fell in love with Lady Death & killed most of his race to impress her. then he found the cosmic cube, making him virtually omnipotent (as a side note: in doing so, killing Drax the Destroyer’s parents, and yes, Drax is one of the Guardians of the Galaxy). Thanos’ quest for ultimate power and his will to kill all living things to impress Lady Death, yes it really does matter who you chose to date, features the creation of the Infinity Gauntlet, that’s a plate-mail glove, like knights used to wear, do i have to explain everything? anyway, the Infinity Gauntlet is gold and when fitted with all of the Infinity Stones grants the wearer power great enough to destroy the universe. the Tesseract is one Infinity Stone and in Thor 2: the Dark World (you know, with the dark elves), we see the another Infinity Stone, the Aether. at the end of the movie, during the final credits scene, we meet The Collector, as Lady Sif and Thor deliver the Aether to him for safe keeping. The Collector is immortal and omnipotent, but became complacent and rather bored with his long existence, so he began to collect things, rare things, and once he had one of an item, he just had to have all of whatever it was to complete the collection, hence the name, ‘the collector.’ now, the Aether was actually not the second Infinity Stone that we have seen in the Marvel movie universe. in the Avengers, we had several sneak peaks to what was to come. we see Thanos, briefly and shrouded. he was the one that Loki kneeled to; the one that rescued Loki from the the frost giant world of Jotunheim (pronounced “yo-den-hi mm”), gave him command of the Chitauri army and, most importantly, a staff of power with, yes, you guessed it, wait-what? you didn’t guess? grrrrr-another Infinity Stone. so that’s three Infinity Stones three more to go. so yes, we will see Thanos in full action for the Guardians of the Galaxy movie, yes AUGUST 1ST!, and we will see more Infinity Stones and more of the Collector. but we wont get to see the Infinity Gauntlet in full form until the Avengers3, yes we have to wait a while, a long while, probably until 2018 😦
ok, bad to our story, Captain America: the Winter Soldier. for the credits preview scene (there were two, one mid-credits, and one at the very end, after you discover they filmed a lot of the movie in Ohio of places, and yes, we yelled out “OHIO,” with fist in the air, just like from the Drew Carey show, when we first saw that.) the mid-credit scene showed a secret Hydra base, future Hydra villain Baron von Stucker (former nazi, who has slowed his aging process) and human experimentation using, yes, Loki’s staff and the second Infinity Stone. as you probably guessed by now, Thanos really wants that stone back and is really going to make Loki suffer for failing him and losing the staff. it wont matter that Loki is cloaked, appearing as Odin, in Asgard, Thanos will find him (he actually threatened Loki, saying just that, in the Avengers). now that the Red Skull is gone, in the Marvel cinematic universe, other Captain America villains will arise like Stucker or Vemo or … actually, there are quite a few. i know, i know, i’m getting to it, who were those last surviving people in the cells? or the”twins,” as they were referred to in the mid-credit scene? well, i need to explain what has happened irl, (in real life), with Marvel and Marvel Movies. Marvel almost went under for a second time in the late 90’s. several things happened to save them. Disney ended buying Marvel and the Marvel Universe, Sony bought the exclusive movie rights to Spider-man and, more importantly, to this story, Fox bought the rights to not only, the X-men, but also mutants, and every type of mutant and even the use of the word “mutant.” sooo, that means that no mutants or X-men can ever appear in Marvel movies, (also no Spidey). this is detrimental to how superheroes work. imagine a world where a story is told where there were only police and no firemen or EMT’s, they need each other to face each threat and disaster and save lives. so so sooo, back to the mid-credit scene, Marvel, it seems, has developed a way to create mutants, without actually being mutants, genetic disposition that manifests during puberty or is otherwise activated. so so so soooo….drum roll…the two “twins,” were QUICKSILVER, who is kinda like the Flash, and SCARLET WITCH, one of the most awesome female mutants/avengers/super heroines of all time. she has really awesome powers, is such a fascinating character and has a dark quality as well, that makes her really interesting. in the comics, QUICKSILVER and SCARLET WITCH are the children of Magneto, thus genetically inheriting mutant powers. i’ll do a separate post on the coolness of Wanda Maximoff, aka the SCARLET WITCH, so you can fully understand her. ok, i’ll do one on QUICKSILVER as well, mostly because he will be featured in the upcoming Fox X-men movie, with a different actor than the one playing Quicksilver in the future Marvel movies. how is that legally possible? Quicksilver is a mutant, therefore is now owned by Fox, but both Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch were both Avengers in the comic series, so they kinda fall into two legal categories, “mutant” and “avenger.” and thanks loads stoopid lawyers for making this so confusing. can’t we all just get along & make superhero as they should be made?
HYDRA and the Fall of S.H.I.E.L.D.
what will happen to Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.? (& damn it Stan Lee for making S.H.I.E.L.D. so hard to type, every time, SHIFT period, SHIFT period, SHIFT period, ugh~~). will they be canceling the prime time tv show on abc now? what? i didn’t cover what happened to S.H.I.E.L.D. (ugh ~~) in Captain America:the Winter Soldier yet? ooops. ok, here’s what happened. in the Avengers, there was a scene where you saw the HYDRA symbol on crates in the weapons cache (the HYDRA symbol is that of an actual hydra, with tentacles, but with a skull, like the one from ancient Greece, where, as part of the 12 tasks of Hercules, Hercules attempted to slay the beast by chopping off its many heads; as he did so, two heads grew back in its place.). so, if you were paying attention, you knew HYDRA was coming, maybe not in the form of essentially destroying S.H.I.E.L.D. so what happens now? (and yes, i started two sentences in a row with “so,” so?) so what happens to Agent Coulson and tv’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.? (and yes i did it again, but it really work there did it?). last fall we saw Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. incorporate into the Thor 2: the dark world plot line. will they be doing this again? they can’t. why? they just brought Agent Coulson back from the dead, they can’t disband S.H.I.E.L.D. on tv and tear away a character we have grown to love. so (yep..) don’t believe the hype, the series will continue, just with deception, duplicity and hopefully more Marvel movie action. for everyone who has complained that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is boring, well get ready, because leading up to and including, the final episode, is said to be “riveting.”
oh ok, i’ll tell you what happened in the Winter Soldier.. (i did mention spoiler alert already, right?) S.H.I.E.L.D. was infiltrated by HYDRA, from the highest ranking official (Pierce, not Nick Fury of course) down to the average agent. S.H.I.E.L.D.’s new helicarriers were designed to eliminate threats from high altitude, low-earth orbit, using a sophisticated satellite network. HYDRA’s plan was to take over this network and eliminate threats before they happen, by profiling potential human threats, 20 million of them, using Zola’s algorithm and killing them. Captain America demanded nick Fury end S.H.I.E.L.D. so that HYDRA will never again take over and have that much power. the flaw in this plan is that HYDRA could just as easily infiltrate other organizations, like the CIA or the FBI, and may have done so already. Hydra will still continue, but now S.H.I.E.L.D. is not there to stop them. but it was a nice twist to see in the film. they set it up for Nick Fury to be a regular, hands-on agent again; i’m really looking forward to seeing that. i wonder if A.I.M. will ever be incorporated into the movies or tv Marvel world (maybe with Project Centepede)? (A.I.M. is a group of villainous scientists similar to HYDRA). also to note: it was hinted in the film that Natasha Romanov BLACK WIDOW’s ‘checkered past’ may come to light. i think they mean how she worked for HYDRA in the past. to me, this is setting the stage for a stand alone BLACK WIDOW movie, which i would be very excited about seeing, not just for Scarlet Johansson, but also for Widow’s relationship with HAWKEYE. i’m still not clear how this segways into S.W.O.R.D. and Abigale Brand (hopefully future movies will cover ‘Secret Invasion’ & Spiderwoman/Jessica Drew; really, REALLY hope so). there is just so much material Marvel can draw from to create movies, and by the way, they have made movie plans through 2028, so pay attention in each film, they will hint at future films.
so go see Captain America : the Winter Soldier, if you haven’t already; see it in XD sound, as well as in 3D, so you can hear the vibranium reverb effect from Captain America’s shield. did you want to know the future of Captain America, Thanos & the Winter Soldier? stay tuned to my blog, youtube & twitter, and i just might tell you, hint: Captain America 3 will be epic, but nothing can prepare you for the events that will transpire in Avengers 3.
the only thing that would have made this movie better, when Captain America was falling from an impossible height, from a crashing helicarrier (but this time onto pavement, not water), Ironman appears out of nowhere, catching him before he hits the ground. that’s the kind of cross over Marvel often plays, and it would have been uber amazing to see it on film. although, a scene like that may have caused geeks everywhere to spontaneously explode, so maybe they didn’t add a scene like that to preserve the geek population. well played Marvel, well played.
